Use Cases for DDM

The DDM platform is developed to support a range of applications, vertical solutions and use cases. The built in meta data driven data model can be adopted to support languages and terms used in the different applications and verticals.

Below are a few use cases describing what the DDM platform can be used for.

Facility Management – Connected Buildings

One of the supported verticals is facility management or smart houses. The application helps different users to achieve their business goals based on facts and figures coming from device and sensors.

For facility managers the solution helps in

  • Space management
  • Space utilization
  • Planning of maintenance based on usage
  • Control of temperature, air quality, humidity, ventilation optimization etc.

Input to the platform is, sensor data from sensors set up in the facilities that reports temperature, presence, humidity etc. into the platform where algorithms are applied to the data to provide information that can be examined in the facility management application.

The following figure shows the current temperature in the conference room.  The history of actual temperature as well as average values is also available for display. Using the application, the ventilation and temperature can be adjusted to the utilization for workdays, weekends etc.

Based on fact the facility manager can take actions to adjust the temperature and each degree that the temperature can be lowered reduces the heating cost by 5%.

Using the same tool, the facility manager can also view the utilization of the space. This information can give direction to if the office space can be reduced or if more space will be needed. The following figure shows the average utilization of desks and conference rooms.

For employees the solution helps in simplifying finding available conference rooms and other resources, reporting faulty equipment in the facilities by using a smart phone or a web based application. In this case DDM is linked to the Outlook conference room booking register. Available rooms in Outlook are marked in green, booked in red, orange means booked but there is no presence in the room.

For service organizations the solution can help in:

Optimizing the planning of room cleaning, based on the information about resource utilization the cleaning schedule can be optimized based on how often a resource is used.

The platform contains historical information about i.e. utilization of conference rooms, toilets, work spaces etc., and this detailed information can be used when planning where and when cleaning is needed.

Additional Use Cases

Smart Cities

Connect sensors and devices measuring temperature, air pollution, water quality, noise etc and ingest the data into DDM where rules and triggers on values and conditions. View trends on advanced reports and dashboards based on the collected information and make decisions.

Example dash board for a smart city environment application based on DDM.

Fleet Management

Keep information about trucks, cars, trains etc, where are they, how have they been driving, what is the status of the vehicle. Generate statistics, compare different trucks, raise alarms or sue the data for predictive maintenance for the fleet.

Smart Parking

Keep track of available spaces indoor and outdoors, visualize and build end-users applications the help users find an available parking. Let DDM notify a user when they are 500 meters from the office where there are available spaces when they arrive. Drive charging of parking spaces based on popularity and/or utilization of the spots.
